Video

Video Frames Per Second

A higher number of Video Frames Per Second will result in a smoother video recording at the cost of increased increased CPU overhead and RAM usage. Special note: Computers with low processing power (less than a Pentium-class P4 or comparable) have difficulty playing back Repro's recorded at high frame rates.

Seconds Per Key Frame

A video Key Frame is a complete snapshot of the entire display area. For other video frames (called Delta frames), Repro captures only screen areas it detects have changes. Occasionally, Repro fails to detect screen updates, so the captured video will not be accurate until the next Key Frame. Reducing the Seconds Per Key Frame results in a more accurate video capture at the cost of increased CPU overhead and RAM usage.

Cursor Frames Per Second

To make the captured cursor more smooth without the increased CPU and RAM overhead, Repro can record cursor updates at a higher frequency than other screen updates. A higher Cursor Frames Per Second will not increase RAM or CPU overhead, but computers with low processing power (less than a Pentium-class P4 or comparable) have difficulty playing back Repros recorded at high cursor frame rates.

Polling Accuracy

To reduce CPU overhead Repro uses an advanced algorithm to detect areas of the screen that have changed since the last video frame . In some cases, this detection fails. To reduce the effect of these failures, Repro also checks random pixels on the screen for changes. If a pixel has changed, Repro considers the smallest window containing this pixel to be changed. Increasing the Polling Accuracy will increase the number of pixels checked, resulting in a higher accuracy video at the cost of increased CPU overhead at recording time.

Disable desktop wallpaper while Repro is running

Desktop wallpaper is typically difficult to compress. Capturing wallpaper thus results in increased CPU overhead and a larger Repro file. It is recommended to have Repro disable desktop wallpaper while running. Repro will re-enable wallpaper on exit.

Disable display acceleration while Repro is running

Repro recommends disabling display acceleration while Repro is running. Your screen will flicker when Repro starts up and shuts down.

Graphic cards differ in capability depending on the manufacturer and model. Some processing tasks may be handled by the card while other parts are processed by the driver. Windows allows you to select to what extent the graphics card handles graphics processing. When Hardware Acceleration is set to "Full," the mouse cursor is generated by the hardware, and the mouse can appear slow to respond on older hardware when Repro is recording. To prevent the mouse from appearing slow, Repro performs best when display acceleration is disabled.
